Messy Baptism joy

Standish Methodist Messy Church recently held its first Messy baptisms. Tracey Fitzsimmons, the Family Worker at Standish nr Wigan, also our new Regional Coordinator for Wigan, was delighted with how it went and the baptism family were even more delighted.
Tracey says: ‘We had our first Messy Church baptisms at Standish. It went really well. We had lovely comments from the family, who were mostly experiencing Messy Church for the first time. The sister of the mum of the baptism family was sharing with me how Messy Church had transformed her sister’s life—which was really special. She had tried a out a few Messy Churches where she lives.’
The family chose to have the WHOLE Messy Church take on the role of the godparents, and one of the families really liked this, and the idea of saying ‘we will pray for you, we are in this together’.
A special Messy Church baptism cake was made, plus a shawl was presented to the family, knitted by the Prayer Shawl Group. Everyone particularly enjoyed creating their own Baptingles!
The baptism mum said, ‘The whole thing was fab! You did amazing. I’m still talking about it to people! The Baptingles, the shawl, the atmosphere—it couldn’t have been more perfect!’
