Sharing Stories

13 July 2010

An email from Gail in Canada about sharing ideas for use in Messy Church.

'I enjoyed meeting Lucy at All Saint's Church in BC, Canada. I asked her about a place to share "messy stories". Our Messy Church involves telling a Bible story interactively - i.e. a story and kids sermon all in one. For example for the story of Abraham and Sarah we journeyed around the church from picture to picture that I'd hung up to represent the different lands they went to and sang "Nothing Can Trouble" to teach them something they could sing if they were worried.

For the story of creation I used a felt board. For the story of the magi we used the creche figures and camels and I added a fourth for Artaban that we took around the church.

I'd love to share these in more detail and have a place to get others ideas from too.

Lucy asked that I put this question on this website for futher thought.

Thanks,
Gail'

I wanted Gail to flag up this idea of sharing ideas and stories, even if it's just a tiny thing that has worked well for you, as I am very aware there is OODLES of cutting edge work going on in Messy Churches and often what we learn in one place could be just the idea for use in another place: we do need to share stories. So if you have even a little anecdote, idea, craft, story technique, like Gail's idea of walking the story, do trot along to the Messy Community paint pot on the home page and jot it down in the form you'll find on that page. Someone somewhere in the world will be grateful to you!
