In detail

All four sessions in this issue are based on Gospel stories about Jesus. They range from focusing on Jesus at just a few weeks old to looking at his death and resurrection.

In January we look at the delightful cross-generational story of Mary and Joseph taking Jesus to the Temple. The baby, the teenage mum, the older dad and the comparatively ancient Anna and Simeon meet in the arms of the Holy Spirit.

In February we step into the Last Supper, which you might see as a prompt to explore how to share Holy Communion in your Messy Church, or simply as a key story that helps us understand Jesus’ cross and resurrection.

Easter is in March this year and our Good Friday/Easter Day Messy Church invites a pause for wonder at the empty tomb. Not bunnies. Avoid bunnies. You might want to check out Messy Easter for additional ideas (see overleaf).

And in April we step back into Jesus’ time in Jerusalem before the crucifixion, when we enjoy the story of the widow giving her tiny-but-huge offering. It is an opportunity to explore the themes of justice and kingdom values as well as to see Jesus at his most compassionate and respectful towards the most vulnerable in society.
