The Messy Church team had a fantastic time at the Hand in Hand Conference in Eastbourne last weekend...although they all came back a little exhausted from all the hard work they put in!

Charis and Michelle (Regional Coordinators) led a session where they shared ideas about boys & blokes at Messy Church. There was a Messy Temptations session based on the ideas from the Get Messy! magazine and the Messy Easter book. There was lots of fun and families, and the edible snakes went down particularly well!

Then 100 people turned up to discover Extreme Messy Crafts with Pete Maidment and Barry Brand! Their book is out in May, but we couldn't wait to see what boys and blokes enjoy the most. We made giant racing car tracks, construction challenges, CD hovercrafts, butter making, catapulting sticks, and lots of ideas to engage the lads and dads (actually the girls won the construction challenge!).

It started getting rather hot in our Messy Room. But we kept on going and more desert snakes and balloon globes were made, survival trails completed and then Martyn's wonderful storytime helped even the toddlers in buggies shout 'NO!' to the devil!

Huge thanks to the Margery our Messy steward at Hand in Hand who enjoyed getting Messy and was our welcomer! The Messy Quiet Prayers seemed to go down well. Not sure about using the cheap version of shaving foam next time though. Rather potent!

Another BRF ministry is Who Let The Dads Out? and their founder Mark Chester was one of the main speakers at the conference.
Key quote from a conversation with his son: 'Why are you a Christian, son?'... 'Because you are Dad.'
Plus Messy Martyn and James ended up on the main stage too...quite the double act!

The conference was also a super opportunity for meeting others in the Messy network. Messy Jane enjoyed catching up with lots of the Regional Coordinators, some travelling from Lochgilphead in the Scottish Highlands and Northern Ireland. Jill from N Ireland met Kevin, RC in Dorset, who used to be RC in N Ireland. Keeping up so far?

Also Becky (RC Bedfordshire) and Adam May were at Hand in Hand with their new venture The Treasure Box People.

What a Messy Team we had this year! Thank you to all who came to get Messy with us: Jane, Martyn, James, Charis, Michelle, Aike, Pete & family, Barry, Jane B, Nancy and the great support from BRF. Lucy we missed you!

We loved meeting everyone at Hand In Hand. Keep in touch and keep us updated on all the stories you shared with us. The conversation is already bubbling over on Facebook and Twitter so please go and join!
