The hidden story behind our Messy teams

Some Messy Church events are sadder than others and it's never easy when a member of the team dies. But God is in the difficult times as well. Rev Alison Bennett in Basingstoke shared this moving story of June:

Watch and Pray

Planning, setting up, running and then clearing up after Messy Church is hard work! It's usually so full on that finding time in all that busyness to pray can be a challenge. In a recent short video clip about prayer Lucy, Jane and I talked about this and made some suggestions which we hope were helpful.

Messy school parents' night hospitality

A story to share from Revd Sarah in Bolton: I just wanted to share something our Messy Church did last week.  Both Messy Churches are run after school on school premises. It does put us at the mercy of school sometimes but we manage and the schools try really hard to accommodate us.

The Exhaustion Factor

There’s a big difference between the tingle and terror that zaps around the team just before your first ever Messy Church and the less urgent feeling just before your 45th month of Mess. It’s only human – human beings thrive on novelty and innovation, so when things settle into a routine, it can be hard to keep on believing in it in your heart as well as in your head. It can be hard to muster up the energy, to feel thankful to God, to feel inspired to make the most of every minute of the Mess.

Victoria's growing Regional Coordinator network

It's very exciting to see the Messy Church Regional Coordinator network growing, but to see it growing in Australia is awesome when you think of the vast distances between the regions. In Victoria Chris Barnett is plotting and dividing and finding wonderful, passionate people to support this growing Messy ministry.

New Recruit to the Messy Church Team

Say a messy hello to James Pegg!  James has just joined the BRF Messy Church team as an Intern for this coming academic year.  James is also supported by The One Programme which is run by the Methodist Church.  James will be joining us for some of our events, going with Martyn on his messy visits and making a few of his own, with a particular focus on looking at 'teenagers in Messy Church'.

Team and celebration: can you help?

A couple of queries from Narelle in Australia. Any help for her from your experience? We have been running Messy Church once a month for nearly a year now. And have seen it grown. Each time, we evaluate it and try to work out how we can do it better.

Being a missionary leader

Messy Churches need teams - it's one of the glories and headaches of running one! Bishop Graham Cray has written a useful article about leading teams in a missionary spirit. I particularly like the reminder to keep on looking outwards: Above all accept the responsibility to keep it missional, rather than settle into a pattern of life that is self serving.

Query about teams

An enquiry came through a little while ago that I don't feel competent to answer: anyone got any thoughts for John?  John wrote:
